GL Studio Selected by Draper for Artemis Lunar Landing Simulator

The DiSTI Corporation, the world’s leading provider of HMI development solutions, announces that GL Studio has been selected by Draper for developing a true-to-life 4D simulation of landing a spacecraft on the moon. The simulation shows the first phase of the Lunar Landing Simulator that was used to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing. In the next phase, GL Studio will also be used in prototypes and studies for NASA’s Artemis lunar  exploration program.

“With the adoption of GL Studio for Artemis, that puts our HMI software in almost every space endeavor being conducted in the United States today,” said Christopher Giordano, DiSTI’s Vice President of UX/UI Technology. “It’s a huge honor for us to be part of such a historic endeavor as the commercial aerospace continues to thrive and grow globally.”

NASA hopes to send astronauts to the moon again by 2024. As part of that mission, dubbed Artemis, Draper is one of several companies working on prototypes for a new lunar lander.

GL Studio has been used in the HMI development for the instrument panels and control displays within the Lunar Landing Simulator due to its ease of integration with third-party tools used in both the cockpit simulator and a simpler training kiosk.

According to Curt Schroeder, Task Lead for Simulation and Visualization on the project at Draper, “GL Studio’s Re-usable Software Objects (RSOs) allowed us to re-use assets from the cockpit simulation and build the training kiosk from concept to operational prototype in just one week.”

Space may be the final frontier, but at DiSTI we know the first step is HMI software, simulations, and training you can rely on. Please contact Sales@Disti.com to learn more about our experience in spacecraft technology.
